Leon Marx, Insurance Exec, Dies Of Heart Attack At 70 Times Picayune 03-13-1996 ************************************************* Copyright. Marx, chairman of the board of Student Insurance Inc., died Monday of a heart attack at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 70. Mr. Marx was born in Monroe and lived in Metairie for the past 37 years. He graduated from Neville High School in Monroe and received a bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech University and a master's degree from Louisiana State University. He was an Army corporal in World War II and received the American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Marx was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Metairie, where he was active in District No. 6840 affairs and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a past chairman of the Fellowship of Rotary International and began the practice of collecting and exchanging pins. He was a former chief barker of the Variety Club and a member of American Legion Post No. 175. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Ray Marx; a son, David Marx of Dallas; a stepson, Robert Ray Emery of Metairie; a daughter, Diana Mears of Puyallup, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Diana G. Cornu of Blue Lake; a brother, Sol Forrest of Phoenix; a grandchild; and three step-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.
