She was 87. A lifelong New Orleans resident, Dr. Salatich graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart and attended the Loyola University School of Dentistry, where she was the only woman in the 1932 graduating class. She later went into practice with her father, R.J. Salatich, and practiced dentistry for more than 30 years before retiring. She focused on pediatric dentistry, and for a short time she ran an Uptown nursery school for retarded children who had started out as her patients. During the early '50s, Dr. Salatich - who while a student had appeared on radio as a singer and pianist - took a role in a play at Le Petit Theatre, which sparked a career that spanned the next four decades. During these years, in which she also directed plays, she appeared in many productions for Gallery Circle Theater, Tulane University Theater, Family Service Society and Les Comediens Francaises, in whose productions she spoke fluent French. In later years, she coached the Holy Name High School French Club, sending her students on to win statewide prizes. She also took several roles on the dinner-theater circuit and appeared in TV commercials. She was an avid overseas traveler. Dr. Salatich is survived by her daughter, Renee Richard McKenna, and four grandchildren.
