Lawyer, Former FBI Agent Robert R. Rainold Sr. Dies Times Picayune 09-6-1996 ************************************************* Copyright. Rainold Sr., a lawyer and former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, died Tuesday at his home. He was 87. Mr. Rainold joined the law firm of Baldwin and Haspel in 1935 and, except for four years with the FBI, remained with it until 1991, retiring as managing partner. He worked for the FBI in Baltimore and Philadelphia from 1942 to 1946. He continued in the private practice of law until his death. He was a founding member and past president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission and a past president of the New Orleans Bar Association. Mr. Rainold was born and lived most of his life in New Orleans. He graduated from Warren Easton High School, Tulane University and Tulane Law School and attended Harvard University's law and graduate business schools. At Tulane, he was student manager of the 1929 football team and earned varsity letters in swimming and track. He was a past president of the Children's Bureau of New Orleans, which presented him the Alfred Clay Award for outstanding service; a past president of Valencia; a member of the Aviation Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; a regional president and board member of the Society of Former Agents of the FBI; a past president of the Pickwick Club; and a member of the Stratford Club, the New Orleans Country Club and several Carnival organizations. Survivors include a son, Robert R. Rainold Jr.; a daughter, Catherine Rainold Brewster; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
