He was 60. Mr. Langs was the longtime chairman of the department of education at Xavier University; a former administrator at Joseph Hardin, Booker T. Washington, G.W. Carver and Helen S. Edwards schools; and a former adjunct professor at Southern University at New Orleans and Tulane University. He also was a notary public, an insurance agent with Primerica Life Insurance Co., a radio and television technician and a pest-control worker. Mr. Langs was born in New Orleans. He was a graduate of Xavier Preparatory School and Xavier University. He received a master's degree in education from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and a doctorate in educational administration from Western Michigan University. He was a member and former treasurer of the Young Men Illinois Club; a team chairman for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education; a member of Kappa Delta Pi fraternity, an international honors society of educators; an ombudsman with the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs; a board member of the New Orleans Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America; a founding member of the Flamingos Band; and a member of the Principals Association of New Orleans Public Schools and the Men's Group at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was a former Army Armed Forces Radio Service broadcaster. Survivors include two sons, Darren Langs of Shreveport and Bryan G. Langs; a daughter, Ameena Qadeera of New York City; four brothers, Alvin, Lionel, Ronald and Earl Dennie Langs; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
