All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Dr. Tom Irving Greenberg, an optometrist and founder of Vision Plaza, a chain of eye-care centers, died Saturday of cancer at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 60. Dr. Greenberg was born in Galveston, Texas, and lived in New Orleans many years. When Vision Plaza opened in Lakeside Shopping Center in 1964, Dr. Greenberg was the first optometrist to have an optical and optometric office in a major shopping center. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Tulane University and a degree in optometry from the Massachusetts College of Optometry in Boston. He was certified by the Louisiana State Board of Optometry, the Mississippi State Board of Optometry, the Maryland State Board of Examiners in Optometry, the International Association of Boards of Examiners in Optometry and the Louisiana Eye Foundation. Dr. Greenberg was a member of the Louisiana Optometry Association and the Touro Synagogue. Survivors include his wife, Marjory Ostin Greenberg; a son, Jeffrey T. Greenberg; three daughters, Jodi G. Brilliant of Annapolis, Md., and Deborah and Susan Greenberg; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 4 p.m. at House of Bultman, 3338 St. Charles Ave. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. There will be a private burial.
