She was 68. She was the president of Jefferson 25, a Jefferson Parish-based nonpartisan women's organization dedicated to supporting qualified women candidates for public office. The group also supports the appointment of women to public boards and commissions. Mrs. Strong was born in Baton Rouge and lived in Metairie for the past 41 years. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and attended Newcomb College while earning her nursing degree from Touro School of Nursing. She was a founding member of the Bissonet Plaza Elementary School PTA and former president of the LSU Medical Center Faculty Wives Club. She was a member of the Committee of 100, the LSU Medical School Alumni Association, the Jefferson Parish Medical Society Auxiliary and the American Medical Association Alliance. Survivors include her husband, Jack Perry Strong; four daughters, Mary Louise Strong of Flint, Mich., Margaret Patricia Strong of Covington, Martha Strong Schlesinger of Big Branch and Maury Elizabeth Strong of Sydney, Australia; a sister, Maury Powers Buzbee of Baton Rouge; and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
