He was 61. A native of New Orleans, Giraud served 26 years as a traffic court judge and previously served as a city attorney in the administration of Mayor Victor Schiro. Giraud resigned his court post this past fall, prompting an election to complete four years of his eight-year term. A graduate of Tulane University and the Tulane School of Law, Giraud was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and American Judges Association. He had close political ties to an array of union organizations and served as a board member for Lutheran High School, Lutheran Social Services and other groups. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ida Bahan Giraud; two sons, Patrick and John Giraud; two daughters, Gretchen and Lauren Giraud; one brother, Frederick Giraud; and by four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., with burial in New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune, Miss. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday after 9 a.m.
