New Orleans, February 3. A young girl's courage resulted in the frustration of a burglary, and the probably fatal wounding of a burglar. At 5 o'clock, the eighteen-year-old daughter of James Flynn heard some one attempting to open a window opening from the kitchen into the yard. She ran into the yard and discovered the burglar to be a burly negro. Nothing daunted, Miss Flynn immediately seized the man and screamed for assistance. Her father, hearing her cries, secured his pistol and ran into the yard. Despite the struggles of the burglar to escape, Miss Flynn had maintained a firm grasp on him, and was still clinging reluctantly to the rascal when her father appeared. Mr. Flynn fired once on the man, shooting him just below the shoulder blade, and inflicting a desperate if not fatal wound. Not until the burglar fell to the ground did the brave girl release her hold. The burglar was taken to the hospital, where it was discoverd that the man had frequently figured in the recorder's courts. He claimed that he was trying to escape from an enemy, and for that reason was seeking refuge in the Flynn kitchen. The man had been drinking heavily and was in a condition bordering on delirium termens.
