P. Assenheiemr, 48 superintendent of employment for the Orleans levee District, died at his home, 321 Hillary Street, yesterday morning at 11:30 o'clock. Mr. Assenheimer had suffered with an ailing heart for a period of nine months, according to members of his family, during which time he conducted his levee board duties from his home. He was confined to his bed during the past month and succumbed Sunday morning surrounded by his wife and six children. Mr. Assenheimer, staunch supporter of Governor Long, became active in state and city politics eight years ago when he was defeated for State Central Committeeman on the Long ticket. He was instrumental in inducing Mr. Long to run for governor at that time and was active in selecting the ticket. He was later connected with the Louisiana Public Service commission and in 1928 went to the Democratic convention in Houston as a Lousiana delegate. During Governor Long's successful campaign in the Spring of 1928, Mr. Assenheier worked assiduously as city campaign manager in New Orleans. As a reward for this service, the Governor appointed him superintendent of the Levee board in August of the same year. While confined to his home during recent months, Mr. Assenheimer kept in touch with his work continually through Jules Pescay, chief inspector of the Levee board, who visited his home almost daily. Prior to entering public ife, Mr. Assenheimer was employed as a salesman for the P. Graham Grocery Company. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Thurm Assenheimer, four sons, Scott T., 28, Francis, 26, Emmet, 24 and Eldred P. 16, two daughters, Mrs. V.A. Pitre and Mrs. D. W. Lacy, all of whom live in New Orleans. Many Notables Among Pallbearers Funeral services will be held in the home this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Interment wil be in Metairie cemetery. The list of honorary pallbearers includes the names of numerous prominent state and city officals and members of various professions. They are Governor Long and his brother, Earl Long; State Sentators T.P. McConnell, Fred Oser, O. K. Allen, F. E. DeLahoussaye, Jules A. Fischer; State Representatives Ellender and McClanahan; A. J. Shushan, chairman of the Levee board; Charles J. Donner, secretary of teh Levee board; H. C. Whiteman, Henry Waguespack and A. J. Thomas all members of the Lebee board, Gus Nugent, vice- chairman, Lousiana Highway commission; Atlee Steckler, manager of State penitentiary; Jules Moustier, Jury Commissioner; W. P. Dillon, chairman Jury commission; Dr. Vidrine, superntendent of Charity hospital, Dr. D'Aunon of Charity hospital; Dr. George F. Bel, who attended the deceased during his long illness; John Welker, Joe Bienvenue, John St. Paul, Paul H. Maloney, Henry C. Bernius and Chairman Blasini of the Tax commission. Additional Comments: Correction: Scott P. Assenheimer only had four children. Four sons, Scott T., Francis, Emmett, and Eldred P. The ladies listed as his daughters were actually Mr. Assenheimer's two sisters; Mrs. V. A. Pitre and Mrs. D. W. Lacy.
