All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 5, 2006, for Brother Brendan Hayden, FSC, at 11:00 AM, in De La Salle Christian Brothers Chapel. Brother Brendan died suddenly on October 2, 2006, after attending Mass and a gathering with the community. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM beginning with a Rosary. Brother Brendan was 72 years of age and had been a De La Salle Christian Brother for 55 years. Burial will follow in De La Salle Cemetery in Lafayette, Louisiana. Born on May 14, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of Thomas R. Hayden and the former Leona Herkes, both deceased. He is survived by paternal and maternal cousins. Brother Brendan entered the Brothers as a Junior Novice in 1947. He received the Religious Habit on August 14, 1951 and made final profession of vows on July 2, 1959. During his many years of ministry as a Brother he served seven schools in the New Orleans-Santa Fe Province. He also served in the National Office of the Christian Brothers in Romeoville, Illinois, from 1984 to 1988. He returned to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1988, to serve as Executive Secretary to the Provincial. In 1991, he was asked to assume the position as Principal of Cathedral High School in El Paso, Texas. In 1997 he returned to De La Salle Christian Brothers in Lafayette, Louisiana as Director of Education and Finance. In the Diocese of Lafayette, he served as Principal of Cathedral-Carmel from 1975 to 1979. In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, he served as Principal of Archbishop Rummel High School from 1979 to 1984. Brother will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, always having a story! to tell, and he also loved being with the community. He will be missed by the Brothers of the New Orleans-Santa Fe Province and his many friends.
