David Walter Strassel "King Crab Eternal" Submitted by N.O.V.A. Times Picayune 11-13-2006 ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ On the evening of Friday, November 10, 2006, Dave passed away in his sleep from an apparent heart attack. A native New Orleanian, Dave graduated from Chalmette High School in 1966 and the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1970, where he was a member Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. After a brief time in New Orleans, he returned to Lafayette and enjoyed a lifetime career as an agent with Dwight Andrus Insurance. "King Crab Eternal" as his crabbing buddies knew him, was an avid reader, enjoyed the theater, films, art, and especially live music. He was a life long supporter of the New Orleans Jazz Fest and Festival International de Louisiana and at one time was a partner in the Grant Street Dance Hall with his cousin, Dan Buckley, Charlie Goodson, and Stan Goudeau. His sarcastic wit will be missed by the many people who have introduced themselves as "I'm a friend of David Strassel". He is survived by his sister, Julie Ann Strassel and preceded in death by his parents, Julius Andrew Strassel and Marie Louise Schwartz Strassel; his former wife, Lynn Groesch and his godchild, Mrs. Amy Vogt Cartwell. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the English Lutheran Church, 3701 Cleary Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana 70002. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 1:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille. Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday from 12 Noon until service time at Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette. View the obituary and guestbook online at www.mourning.com. Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette has been chosen to help with the arrangements. (337) 234-2311.
