All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Henrietta, also known as Dabhar, passed away quietly and peacefully on Saturday afternoon December 9 at home surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1985 and her sister, Ruth in 2004. She is survived by two sons; Dennis and his wife Karen of Houston, Texas, David and his wife Barbara of Austin Texas, four grandchildren, Rachel Daws, Gregory Perry, Meaghan Perry, Jonathan Perry and six great grandchildren Andrew Daws, Addison Daws, Alexandra Daws, Anna Daws, Kayla Robinson, and Josiah Perry. Born in Swampscot, Massachusetts on Easter Sunday in 1913, her family moved to Danielson, Connecticut where she was raised. She graduated from Killingly High School in 1929 and attended the University of Wisconsin from 1930 to 1934, gaining her undergraduate and graduate degrees with honors at the Madison campus. She taught at Newcomb College in New Orleans, La. in 1934, then the UNC Women's College in Greensboro, N.C. from 1938 to 1941, followed by a break for marriage, WWII, and child rearing, then back to teaching at McGehee Girls School in New Orleans from 1955 - 1966. Her last teaching assignment was at Biloxi High School in Mississippi where she taught marine biology in and around the Mississippi Sound until 1976. She and Jack stayed in Gulfport Mississippi after retirement. There she served as a volunteer at Gulfport Memorial Hospital, as a member of the Marine Education Center staff, as a substitute teacher, as an election campaign worker, and as a tutor. She moved to Austin, Tx. in 1994 to live with her son David's family, David, Barbara, Jonathan and Meaghan, where she continued to volunteer at South Austin Community Hospital, the Dripping Springs Elementary School Library, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. This marvelous lady was the matriarch of the Perry family, teaching more by her example than her words. Her quiet patience, strength, humor, and endless curiosity about people and life encouraged us, guided us, mended us, and made us laugh. She will be sorely missed. We encourage all to send donations to Hospice Austin, or your local Hospice chapter. They were invaluable in guiding and assisting the family through Dahbar's final days. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Harrell Funeral Chapel, Dripping Springs, TX. Guest book and obituary available online at harrellfuneralhomes.com.
