He Was 92. For A While, Mr. Trapolin Was Listed As A Hurricane Katrina Victim, But He Died The Day Before The Storm Slammed New Orleans, Said His Son, Timothy J. Trapolin. A Native New Orleanian Who Graduated From Jesuit High School And Loyola University, Mr. Trapolin Joined The Godchaux And Mayer Insurance Firm After College But Left In 1942 To Enlist In The Navy. In Addition To Serving Four Years In World War Ii, Mr. Trapolin Was Recalled To Duty During The Korean War. During Those Years, Mr. Trapolin Invented Gunnery, Training And Mechanical Devices, Six Of Which The Navy Patented. He Remained In The Naval Reserve, Retiring As A Captain In 1972. After His Active Duty, Mr. Trapolin Established His Own Insurance Firm And Started A Life Of Community Service. He Was President Of Associated Catholic Charities, The Sertoma Club Of New Orleans, The Greater New Orleans Executives Association, The Serra Club Of New Orleans, The Community Relations Committee Of Greater New Orleans And The Loyola University Alumni Association. Working With His Brother, Ivor Trapolin, And The Rev. Joseph Toomey Of Loyola, He Helped Found The Institute For Human Understanding, To Improve Relations Among New Orleans Citizens. He Received The Order Of St. Louis Medallion From The Archdiocese Of New Orleans. When He Was 65, Mr. Trapolin Started Running. He Signed Up For Races Until He Was In His 80s And Participated In The Senior Olympics, His Son Said. In Addition To His Son, Survivors Include His Wife, Thelma M. Trapolin; Three Daughters, Jane T. Oaksmith Of Seattle, Patricia T. Couret And Anne T. Britt; 10 Grandchildren; And Four Great- Grandchildren.
