Heather Dawn Habisreitinger, 30, of Slidell, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, died at the scene of the 9:57 p.m. accident, police said. Darren Yax, 37, of Lacombe, who was driving the motorcycle, was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, police said. The driver of one of the cars that was struck was treated for moderate injuries and released from Slidell Memorial Hospital's emergency room. Yax and Habisreitinger were traveling north on Front Street at a "very high rate of speed" on a Kawasaki motorcycle when they struck a Nissan Sentra stopped at the Cleveland Avenue intersection, police said. The force of the impact pushed the Nissan forward, causing it to crash into a Chevrolet that was also waiting at the intersection, according to police. Tests will be performed on all the drivers to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
