All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Washington - December 15 - The President today, in transmitting to the Senate a report from the Secretary of State in regard to the killing by a mob on July 11, 1901, of two Italians at Erwin, Miss. recommends that "As an act of grace and without reference to the question of liability of the United States. Congress make a suitable provision for the heirs of two Italian subjects killed and for the survivor who was injured, the proceeds to be distributed by the Italian Government in such a manner as it may deem proper". The two men killed were of the name Giovanni and Serio and the wounded man Liberto.
