Times Picayune 10-26-2003 ********** 004502 Pullen - Marshall Ray Pullen Passed Away On November 20 In Houston, Texas After Bravely Fighting Cancer For Over Two Years. He Was Born In Royse City, Texas On June 9, 1922. After Graduating From Royse City High School In 1939, Marshall Entered Texas Tech University. His College Studies Were Interrupted By World War Ii, And Marshall Enlisted In The U.S. Army Air Forces In 1942. Marshall Was A Navigator On B-17 Bombers Flying Out Of Polebrook, England. During His 20th Mission, His Plane, 'Stormy Weather', Was Shot Down And He Was Captured By German Forces On The Island Of Als In Denmark. Marshall Was A Pow For A Year In Poland And Germany Before Being Liberated By U.S. Forces Under The Command Of General George S. Patton. To Honor The Role That He And His Fellow Crew Members Played In Denmark's Ultimate Liberation, Marshall Was Admitted Membership To The Danish Defence Brothers Society In 2001. After The End Of The War, Marshall Re-Enrolled At Texas Tech And Graduated With A B.S. Degree In Petroleum Engineering In 1948. At Tech, He Was A Member Of The Engineering Rotc And Phi Psi Fraternity. Up Until The Moment Of His Death, Marshall Was A Lifelong Supporter Of Texas Tech University And A Big Fan Of All Red Raiders Athletic Teams. Marshall's Long And Successful Career In The Oil Business Began With Employment As An Engineer With The Hunt Oil Co. Of Dallas, Texas. His Work Eventually Took Him To Shreveport, New Orleans, St. Louis, And Finally Houston In 1983. He Retired With Union Pacific Resources In 1986. Marshall Lived A Full Life And Enjoyed Good Food And Good Times. He Especially Loved Hunting And Fishing, And Shared That Love With His Sons. His Many Friends Enjoyed The Special Camaraderie That They Shared With Him. Marshall Was Preceded In Death By His Parents, Rosa Pullen Dempsey And James Taylor Pullen, His Brothers, Willie And Wayne, And A Grandson, Justin H. Vaughn.
