ROBERT COBURN, aged 46 years, a native of Newcastle, England, but for the last sixteen years a resident of this city. The many friends and acquaintances of the above named estimable gentlemen will hear with regret of his untimely demise. Mr. Coburn was a man of many excellent qualities; he was a warm and sincere friend – one whose large heart and generous impulses prompted him to many deeds of kindness and charity. During his long residence in this city he won many friends, who keenly appreciated his admirable social qualities. In the trying times which preceded the occupation of this city by the Federal force, during the late war. Mr. Coburn, as Captain of a company of the British Guards, acquitted himself very creditably, and his name will always be appreciated with those officers and men of the Foreign Legion, who did so much in preserving the city from disorder and lawless deeds immediately pending the entrance of the national troops. By profession Mr. Coburn was a painter, which work, though a skillful hand in its execution, he abandoned some years since, and entered the book and stationery business, his taste and rich fund of information inclining him in that direction. Mr. Coburn was connected with the Masonic fraternity, and was also an exempt fireman. Each of these bodies, as well as the Painter’s Union, was strongly represented at his funeral, which took place on Sunday evening last, attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, who untied in paying the last sad tribute of respect to the remains of a good man, a warm-hearted friend and agreeable social companion.
