Maloney Dies At 49. - An infection of the lungs, belived (sic) incurred during overseas service during the World War, was blamed for the death yesterday morning of John V. Maloney, 49, Mandeville, who died in Marine hospital. Mr. Maloney, relatives said, served as a sergeant in the 85th Motor Transportation corps, from June 1918 to July 1919 and worked for the Illinois Central railroad until 1933, when his health failed and moved to Mandeville. He became post commander of the Herbert Stafford post, America Legion in Mandeville. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Toelke, of New Orleans, his mother, Mrs. Julia Phelan Maloney; two brothers, James P. and Julius A. Maloney and two sisters, Miss Anna Maloney and Mrs. Henry Phillips. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Pat J. MALONEY, in his 49th year; husband of Barbara Toelke, son of Julia Phelan and the late Frank R. Maloney, brother of Mrs. H. Phillips, Ama, James P., and Julius A. Maloney. Relatives and friends of the family, also officers and members of Herbert Stafford Post No. 221 of Mandeville, LA., Crescent City Post No. 125, American Legion and Palmetto Camp No. 2, W.O.W. , also employes (sic) of mechanical department of I.C. railroad are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, which will take place from the funeral home of Pat J. McMahon-Coburn Company, 2305 Canal street, corner North Miro, on Thursday afternoon, November 16, 1939 at 3:30 o'clock. Religious services at St. Matthias church. Interment in Metairie cemetery.
