McMahon, Sr., Loses Long Battle Against Illness. P.J. McMahon, Sr., 68 years old, one of New Orleans' oldest undertakers. yachtsman and former member of the City Council, died at Hotel Dieu Monday night after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will be held at his home 1112 Dryades street, Tuesday at 2 p.m. The services will be conducted by Father Frochn and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. McMahon entered the undertaking business in 1885, succeeding his father, who established the McMahon Company seventy-five years ago. Mr. McMahon was widely known for his charity, it being said he never refused to bury anybody, whether he was paid for it or not. It was during the administration of Mayor Paul Capdeville, 1900 to 1904, that Mr. McMahon served in the council. For many years Mr. McMahon was an ardent yachtsman. He owned the power yacht Lurline, with which he won two silver cups. After the disastrous hurricane of 1915, a boat owned by Mr. McMahon was the first to reach Frenier, La., with doctors, nurses and provisions. Mr. McMahon was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Druids, Woodmen of the World, Benevolent Knights of America, Young Men's Mutual Benevolent Association, Washington Benevolent Association, Natchez Tribe of Red Men, and the Firemen's Charitable and Benevolent Association. Besides his wife, formerly Miss Mary Sabina Roche, Mr. McMahon is survived by three sons, P.J. Jr., T.J. and John B. McMahon; one daughter, Mrs. Ally Jolly of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Joseph J., W.J. and Peter McMahon and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Coburn and Mrs. William Nobles.
