A native of Heilbronn, Wurttemberg, Germany, she came to this city sixty years ago with a relative, and in the year 1848 became the wife of Henry Oertling, then a prominent businessman, and they lived together happily for forty-three years, rearing a large family of sons and daughters and lovingly united until the death of Mr Oertling about fifteen years ago. Mrs Oertling was most kind and charitable, always concerned in an active manner in all works of altruism and benevolence and was known as a true friend of the orphan. For thirty-five years she was treasurer of the Ladies Aid Association of the German Protestant Orphan Asylum and of the German Old Folks Home. At every annual festival of the Volksfest she was prominently identified with the many activities in aid of the worthy cause, and she kept her associations with these various organizations up to very recently, when old age and infirmities compelled her to remain at home. Ten days ago Mrs Oertling suffered a stroke with paralysis and was unconscious for the greater part of the time until her demise occurred yesterday afternoon. She leaves seven children - William C Oertling of this city, connected with the lumber business; Mrs G C Alexius of Covington, LA; Mrs H A Byerum of Olathe, CO; Miss Frederika of New Orleans; Fred Oertling of San Francisco, CA; Gus Oertling, Secretary and Treasurer of the Jackson Brewery; Mrs Joseph Odenwald, New Orleans; twenty-five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The funeral will take place from her late residence this afternoon, at 3 PM, and the remains will be laid to rest in the family tomb in the Fireman's Cemetery.
