Brother Matthew``Zeno``Otis Sr., a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, was born to the late Joseph & Rosa Vell Otis on January 24, 1929 in Pike County, Mississippi. He was married to the late Nora Lee Young Otis for 47 years. He was a man devoted to his family. From their union four sons and seven daughters were born. Bro. Otis was employed for Elmer Candy Company and James J Reese Candy Company for 26 years. Bro. Otis retired from Singer Lumber Company as a truck driver in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1980. Bro. Otis attended Greater St. Andrew Baptist Church of New Orleans, Louisiana under the leadership of the late Rev. Freddie Lee Jackson. Bro. Otis worked faithfully on the Usher Board No. 2. Bro. Otis will always be remembered by his favorite scripture in the Bible Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”. Bro. Otis’s favorite was song, “His Eye is on the Sparrow and I know he watches over me”. Brother Otis became a resident of Smyrna, Tennessee as a result of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He spent his last days close with his family enjoying his favorite pass times, sports and Young and the Restless. He was survived by the following four sons: Geary Otis Sr., Matthew Otis Jr. of Houma, Louisiana, Curtis Otis of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and John Patrick Ike Otis of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was survived by the following six daughters: Maxine Robinson of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Tina Otis of Metairie, Louisiana, and Jacqueline Robichaux, Janice Walker, Joycelyn Otis, and Lita Walker all of Smyrna, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by one daughter Doris Hughes Lovely. He was preceded in death by three sons-in-law: Late Joseph J. Robinson Sr., Late Charles Robichaux, and the Late Charles Walker. He was survived by two sons-in-law: James Lovely and Isaac Walker of Smyrna, TN. He was survived by two daughters-in-law: Melissa Otis of Houma, Louisiana and Janice Otis of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was blessed with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Six Brothers: David (Savannah), Mero (late Catherine), and Joseph (Billy) all of Pontiac, Michigan. He was proceeded in death by three brothers: Late Leslie (Butch), Late Ned Otis, Late James Earl Otis (Paula) all of Pontiac, Michigan. Six Sisters: Eva Mae Geter ( Harold) of Pontiac, Lizell (late James) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
