R. Olliphant, M.D., Chairman Board of Health and Ex-Officio Recorder of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, in and for the Parish of Orleans, personally appeared Jno. A. Barrett, an Undertaker, native of this city, residing at corner Pelican Ave -Belleville Sts, Algiers, who hereby declares that Mary Ellen Spellman, lawful wife of Jules Amann (White) a native of this city, aged 28 years departed this life yesterday (14 July 1897) at no. 612 Pacific Ave, Algiers, in this city. Cause of Death: Asthenia Certificate of Dr. V.F. Lowe (?) Thus done at New Orleans in the presence of the aforesaid J.A. Barrett as also in that of P. H. Lanauze and L. B. Schlbach (?) both of this city, witnesses by me requested as to be, who have hereunto set their hands, together with me after reading hereof, this day, month, and year first above written. D. **Asthenia: Weakness or debility (Neurocirculatory: Da Costa's or effort syndrome; irritable or soldier's heart, a syndrome of functional nervous and circulatory irregularities, characterized by increased susceptibility to fatigue, palpitation, dyspnea, rapid pulse, precordial pain, and anxiety. **From letter written to her mother in 1868, it seems that "Baby Nell" had been a "sickly" child.
