Be it remembered that on this day, to wit the Fifth of September in 
the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight and 
the One Hundred and 23 of the Independence of the United States of 
America, before me, [can’t read], President Board of Health and 
Ex-Officio Recorder of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, in and for 
the Parish of Orleans, personally appeared

S. D. [?] an undertaker, native of this city residing at no. 601 
Elysian Fields who hereby declares that 

		Barbe Octavie Newman 

widow of marriage John F. Legier and by second of Onisophore Drouet 
(white) a native of this city aged 83 years & 7 months departed this 
life yesterday (4 Sept. 1898) at no. 2261 Marino Street, in this city.

Cause of Death chronic broncho asthma
Certificate of Dr. J. F. Derchner
Birth place of parents Father and Mother England

This done at New Orleans in the presence of the aforesaid S. D. [?] as 
also in that of Messrs. [?], both of this city, witnesses by me requested 
so to be, who have hereunto set their hands together with me after due 
reading hereof, the day, month and year first above written.
