Appeared James Casanare, a native of N.O., residing 
on Bourbon St. in this city, who by these presents 
declares that 

		James Rice, 

a native of New England State, city and county not 
known, aged 45 years, departed this life on the 23rd 
Dec. this present year (Dec. 23, 1863) in a house 
situated corner of Tonti and Conti Sts., 2nd district 
in this city.  

This done at New Orleans in the presence of the 
aforesaid J. Casanare and also that of Mssrs. Paul 
and Emile Crozat, Sr., and Alfred A. Laffendance, 
both of this city.
