Also after the M in the name M Donald, there was a degrees mark. Be it remembered, that on this day, to wit: the Thirtieth of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty four and the eighty eighth of the Independence of the United States of America, before me, F. M. Crozat, duly commissioned and sworn Recorder of Births and Deaths, in and for the Parish and City of Orleans personally appeared: (in cursive writing) Thomas O Brenan a native of Ireland (a laborer) residing on Spain Street N 75 in this city. Who by these presents declares that James Walsh a native of Ireland (a laborer) aged sixty four years departed this life on the twenty ninth instant June 29th 1864 in a house N 96 Port Street in this city. Deceased was the lawful husband of Betty M Donald a native of Ireland. Thus done at New Orleans in the presence of the aforesaid Hugh Tully us also in that of Messrs. Paul Emile Crozat A A Laffenaniene both of this city, witnesses by me requested so to be, who have hereunto set their hands together with me after due reading hereof, the day, month and year first above written.
