January 1849 United States of America, State of Louisiana City and Parish of New Orleans Be it Known that on this the Twelfth day of the month of December in the Year of Our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and forty Eight and the Seventy third Year of the Independence of the United States of America Before me Bernard Philips Notary Public in and for the City and Parish of New Orleans State of Louisiana aforesaid duly commissioned and sworn, Personally came and appeared Catherine Hoffman wife of Charles Hamilton residing together with her said Husband in this City who requested me Notary to accompany her at the request of her said Husband Charles Hamilton who is confined to his room to make his last will and Testament Thereupon I proceeded to a Certain Two Story Brick House situated in Condé Street between St. Philip and Urenline Streets in the First Municipality of this City and designated by Number Eighty Nine Upon my arrival I was received by Messieur Miguel Gabriel, William Joseph Casbett and Edward D. Lacey all competent witnesses residing in this City with whom I proceeded up stairs to a Front Room on the Second Story of said House said Room Fronting on Condé Street and Containing One Front, One Side, and one back? door Where we found the said Charles Hamilton sitting on a Rocking Chair, who being sick in Body but sound in mind as it appeared to me Notary and the undersigned witnesses Declared that it is his intention to make his last Will and Testament which he dictated to me Notary in presence of said Witnesses in the following words to wit My name is Charles Hamilton. I was born in Grovingen in the Kingdom of Holland I am about forty nine Years of age I am the legitimate son of John Hamilton and Margarethe Mare? Sherrz I am married to Miss Catherine Hoffman who is residing with me in this City and with whom I have got two children, the first one named Henry Falkland Hamilton aged Two years and the second named Charles Egbert Hamilton aged Three months I consider myself worth about Five thousand dollars consisting of property and Cash I do hereby constitute and appoint my said Wife Catharine Hoffman, and my two sons Henry Falkland and Charles Egbert who all reside with me in this City to be the sole heirs and universal legatees of all and Singular the money and property I may possess Wherever it may be found "I constitute and appoint as my Testamentary Executrix my wife Catharine Hoffman to whom I give the seisine of all my property I do hereby revoke all other Testamentary depositions which I may have made previous to these presents, which I ratify and confirm as containing my last Will This Testament has been thus dictated by the Testator to me said Notary and written by me as dictated and afterwards read by me in a loud and audible voice in presence of the said witnesses to the Testator, who declared that he understood the same and persisted therein Thus done and passed in the domicile and Room described heretofore of Mer.
