C. M. Goodwin of De Siard, Ouachita parish, La., is a native of Alabama and
was born in 1846.  His father, R. P. Goodwin, was a native of South
Carolina and was born in 1812.  During his life he was a planter, and first
came to Alabama and afterward removed to Louisiana, later settling in
Texas, where he died in 1888.  He was a member of the Presbyterian church,
and for many years was a Mason.  In 1838 he married Miss Susan McLain, a
native of Alabama.  They were the parents of twelve children, of whom seven
are living.  The mother died in 1886 in Texas.  In 1859 C. M. Goodwin came
to Louisiana and located at Vienna in Lincoln parish, where for some years
he engaged in trading with much success.  For some time past he has devoted
his attention to planting; he has a beautiful plantation in the north part
of Ouachita parish, consisting of about 520 acres of land.  His principal
crops are cotton and corn.  He ranks among the successful and progressive
planters and the first-class citizens of the parish.
