Scott Samuel Charles Scott Catahoula Parish 1850 - 1862 Samuel Charles Scott arrived in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, prior to 1850. He did not appear on the Catahoula 1840 Census. In the 1850 Census Samuel Scott was listed as 32 years old and a merchant who had been born in Virginia. Catahoula records indicate he settled in the Black River area. In 1851 Sam married Margaret Watson, daughter of Elizabeth Watson. Margaret died 25 March 1852. She is buried in the Scott Cemetery in Monterey, La. "Margaret Scott - no birth date - 03/25/1852 - Age 19 yrs - W/O Samuel C. Scott". Margaret had two siblings, William and Susan. Oct 28, 1853, Samuel C. Scott and Susan J. Watson were married in Catahoula Parish. Sam and Susan had 3 children. Mary Virginia born 25 Aug, 1855, and Alice born Dec 1856. Their third child was a son and was born 18 Aug, 1862 - Samuel Charles Scott, Jr. Mary Virginia married James P. Fitzgerald and had three children (a son Leonard born Feb 1881, a daughter Olie born July 1879, and another son Samuel Scott Fitzgerald born 5 Nov 1889. Leonard settled in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, area. Olie married Will Beard and had at least one child, a daughter Bill Beard who lived in Ferriday, Louisiana. Samuel's US Draft registration lists him as a pharmacist living in Reeves County Texas. Mary Virgina Fitzgerald died 7 June 1935 at 79 years 9 months and 9 days and was buried in Reeves County, Pecos, Texas. Her death certificate lists father Sam Scott and mother Susan Watson. Her son Samuel Scott Fitzgerald in Texas at the age of 96. A letter from his daughter Olga indicates Sam had two children - Douglas and Olga. The second daughter Alice married a Carkeet and had one daughter Annie. ALice was living with her Mother Susan Scott Plummer and her brother Wilbur Plummer in the data from 1900 Catahoula Parish Census. Sam's only son, Samuel Charles Scott, Jr. was born 18 Aug 1862 two months after the death of his father in Jessamine County, Nicholasville, Kentucky. Samuel Charles Scott, Sr. died in the Civil War on 15 Oct 1862. He enlisted in Monterey, Louisiana, on March 28, 1862, leaving behind a pregnant wife Susan and two small daughters. Sam died on 15 Oct 1862 in Camp Nelson hospital in Jessamine County Kentucky. He was buried in Camp Nelson Federal Cemetery but was later moved by a Confederate Doctor to Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville, Kentucky in Jessamine County. In 1862 Dr. Charles Mann, then a surgeon in the Confederate army was ordered to gather and care for the sick and wounded who had been left about Camp Dick Robinson. About eighty of these he brought to Nicholasville where they were cared for by the ladies of that town. Those who died were buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in a section donated by the Cemetery. After the war, Dr. Mann,with the aid of townspeople, gathered other Confederate dead, including those who had been buried in the Federal cemetery at Camp Nelson and brought them to this cemetery at Nicholsaville. Samuel Scott is still listed as buried in the Federal cemetery in their records. The Maple Grove Cemetery survey has not been completed but Louisiana records indicate Samuel Scott is buried there. The town of Nicholasville many years later erected a monument to honor these dead. Samuel Scott, Louisiana, is listed on this monument. Its a fascinating story and anyone interested should visit the Jessamine County, Nicholasville, Kentucky, web site. A quote from their website "The Handsomest public monument in Jessamine County is that erected by the Jessamine Confederate Memorial Association, to the Confederates buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville." Samuel C. Scott was in Company C, 25th Louisiana Infantry. He was elected Captain on March 18, 1862. Maybe more research will tell how he got to Jessamine County in Kentucky. . His niece Olga. in a letter to his grandson, Samuel Charles Scott of Monroe, Louisiana, says the family called him "Wild She said he was her favorite ancestor. Much of my information and leads to use in searching came from her letter. I'll keep researching and hopefully find her last name and maybe a bit about her life. Still searching for Samuel C. Scott's ancestors in Virginia. His son ,Samuel C. Scott, Jr. , married Julia Elizabeth Dabbs at the residence of Byrd Ferrell Miller on 22 Aug 1869. They had 8 children, including two who were named Samuel Charles Scott. Samuel Charles Scott was a twin of Margurite Virginia Scott. They were born 11 Jun 1895. He died 21 Sept 1896 age 15 months 6 days. His sister Margurite died 22 Jan 1911 age 15 years 6 months 11 days. Three other children died at a very young age; Mary Adelia Scott "Decie" 10 years 2 months 5 days, Matias Grady Scott 1 year 7 months 11 days and Muse Dabbs Scott 2 years 4 months 17 days. Three of their children survived to live to adulthood: Mary Olivia Scott Attended Mansfield State Normal School in Mansfield, Louisana, approx 1911. Graduated with teaching certificate. She deoted her life to teaching and taught English in St Joseph, Louisiana. Samuel Charles Scott Married but never had children. Lifelong resident of Fairbanks, La. Married Dollie Breard Vaughn and lived the remainder of his life in Monroe, Louisiana. Edward Starsney Scott My father who lived his life in Fairbanks, Louisiana. Graduate of Ouachita High School and friend to many. Nickname was Stormy and family verbal history says his Father gave him that name because of the stormy night on wich he was born. He was the youngest of their children.
