Peppers Take 165 North and turn right on Fairbanks road. There is a cotton field to the left of the road and nice homes on the right. Just before crossing the bayou, there is a cotton field on the left, with a dirt road the farmers use to get to the field. Ther is a narrow strip of woods on the right. Turn onto this road and in 3 tenths of a mile, the headstones will be in the woods on the right. This is private property, so please ask permission before going to the cemetery. No name could be found for the cemetery, so surveyors named it Lily White Circle Cemetery because of the engravings on the surviving headstones. Last Name First Name Middle Name Birth Death Comment ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watkins Sarah September 13, 1920 Faithful Member of Lily White Circle No. 1320 Foutroy Frank June 9, 1922 Faithful Member of Lily White Circle No. 1320 Additional Comments: Both have footstones with their surname on it, and both have a side view of a striding lion, with it's mouth open on the top of the headstone. Below the lion is a downward pointing triangle with letters in each corner. Left to right, top to bottom: R, O, and F. In the center of the triangle is the number 09. There is one other headstone, made of concrete with no markings; possibly a child's grave. There looked to be several other unmarked graves in the area. Rubbings of the headstones were taken, and death certificates for both persons were found. All are available for viewing in the Genealogy department of the Ouachita Parish Public Library. Surveyed with permission from property owners by Lora Peppers and Bob Powers on September 9, 2000. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
