All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Re Land Patents # 2165 & 2166 that were given to Isaac and William in July of 1834 # 2166 was set aside for Seminary purposes on July 3, 1835 and the money returned on Aug 2 1837 Recorded Vol 5 page 331 Receipt of Isaac and Willam Arledge of Claiborne Land the sum of $ 205.645 in full payment of section numbered 6 in Township # 15 of Range 13 East contriving 164 acres at the rate of $ l.25 per acre This land patent was canceled in Aug of 1837 and the money returned Land Patent 2165 issued to Isaac and William Arledge on August 18 th, 1835 was granted and paid for in the amount of $ 195.71 for 156 Acres South East Quarter of section # 4 township# 17 and range # 5 It was signed by William Arledge and Isaac Arledge and Jno M A Hamblen, Register on Aug 19, 1834 Each Patent was accompanied by statement that was made by both individuals The questions were the same to each and the answers were the same They went as follows: State of Louisiana, Parish of Ouachita Before me the undersigned justice of the peace in and for the parish and state aforesaid and in the presence of the Registar and Receiver of the land office of this place personally appeared Isaac Arledge (William Arledge) who answered under oath the following questions proposed to him before the Register and Receiver relative to his right of presumption under the act of Congress passed and approved on the 19 th dayof June AD 1834 "To Wit" QUESTION # 1 Did you cultivate in lot or fractional section "vez" south east quarter of section number 4 township number 17 of Range Five west in the year AD 1833 Answer YES QUESTION 2 What is the nature and extent of your improvement? Answer About two acres in cultivation with a Dwelling house and other buildings QUESTION 3 Were you living on the said quarter section on the first day of January and on the 19 th day of June AD 1834 and are you living there still? Answer I was living on the said land during the dates above and am living there still QUESTION 4 Does an other person cultivate on said quarter section with you? Answer Yes William Arledge (Isaac Arledge) QUESTION 5 Is William Arledge (Isaac Arledge) interest seperate and Distinct from yours Answer Yes QUESTION 6 Are there any other persons entitled to the right of presumption under any of the acts of Congresspassed in the years 1814, 1830, and 1832 on said land Answer None (Except to William Arledge, Isaac Arledge) to my knowledge Monrow (Monroe) 17 th of August 1835 Isaac (X) Arledge (his mark William Arledge (his signature) Sworn to and subscribed before me John S Faulk Justice of the peace Signed Jno M A Hamblen Register Ran. Eastin, Receiver There were two other papers sworn to by Thompson King and Geo Bush that stated basically the same thing as above There was also a note that the money was drawn from the City Bank of New Orleans in the sum of $ 100 and of the Machanign & Trader bank of N O in the sum of $100 and specie of $ 5.85 The George Bush who signed this paper was the same who married Patsey Arledge, daughter of Joseph Arledge in Ouachita Parish on Sept7 1817 # # #
