Smith, General Agent Listed on the Board of Directors (on letterhead) are: Judge W.F. Robinson Hon. W.R. Wilhite J.S. Dorsey G.W. Trimble J.H. Glenn R.L. Todd J.H. Sampson Victor Barth W.M. Scott The body of the letter reads as follows: Columbia, Mo., May 16, 1899 This to Whom it May Concerned (sic), William H. Smith was with Col. Sidney D. Jackman on a recruiting trip by order of General Price in the spring of 1864 in north Arkansas. William H. Smith was wounded from which he died the 9th day after he was wounded. I was by his side when he was shot, helped carry him of (sic) of the field when he was shot. This happened in Johnson County, Arkansas near Clarksville. Captain Marth Banks, Co. B, Thomas Todd, Dr. Jackmon and about 45 men was in this detail. Captain Post Grady was in command of Federal troops. WIlliam H. Smith had commission from Gen'l Price to recruit. When William H. Smith was with the army, he was in the Quarter Master's Department in General Clark's Brigade. I will answer any other questions that may be necessary if asked. W.W. Hill
