Muse Dabbs to come home through the Confederate Lines. He was with the Consolidated 18th Infantry Regiment, Company O Commander Harry B. Stevens. Muse was born 9 Dec 1845 and although the pass says he is 18 years old, he would have been few months over 19 at the time the pass was written. Several historical sources indicate the brigade was camped at Minden and in January, 1865, marched to Bayou Cotile. Both sites are mentioned in this Civil War Pass . Boyce, Louisiana, near Alexandria was originally called Cotile Landing and is in Rapides Parish. Cotile Lake is a man-made imbankment located in the uplands approximately 15 miles West Northwest of Alexandria, La. I have found no modern references to Bayou Cotile. Private James Muse Dabbs was the son of Dr. Christopher Hunt Dabbs and Julia Washington Bourgeat Muse Dabbs of Ouachita Parish. His Grandmother was Marie Barbe Filhiol Bourgeat daughter of Jean Baptiste (Don Juan) Filhiol, Commandand of Ft Miro. Shortly after the War (Jan 24, 1867) Muse married Mary Olivia Collett. He worked away from home accessing or surveying; am not sure which. From letters and telegraph copies, we know he spent time in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was quarantined there a at least one time for an extended period of time because of a medical epidemic sometime in 1871. Muse died 15 Feb, 1876 (30 years 6 months and 2 days) and was survived by his mother Julia, his wife Levy and his 6 year old daughter Julia Elizabeth Dabbs. Julia Elizabeth Dabbs married S. C. Scott and lived in Mer Rouge, Louisiana for a while but spent most of her life in Fairbanks, Louisiana where her two sons lived (Samuel Charles Scott and Edward Starsney (Stormy) Scott. Although his mother is buried in St. Matthews Catholic cemetery, I can find no information on where Muse or his father Dr. Christopher H. Dabbs were buried.
