The deceased, while in a drunken condition, threatened and assaulted the other negro, taking off his hat and abusing him very grossly. Lewis, the assailed, thereupon picked up a glut and struck his assailant twice on the side of the head; which ended the scuffle. The drunken negro in a day or two was going about, but become ill and delirious subsequently, and finally died. It is worthy of notice that not a single negro has come forward to make an affidavit for Lewis's arrest. He is at large, but not to be seen hereabouts. NOTE: The July 18, 1867 edition of the Ouachita Telegraph, page 2, Column 1 announces the arrest of Lewis. # # # # # #
