  Mrs. Smith, a widow lady and the mother of three little boys, was murdered
near her residence in Union parish, on the 6th inst.  She was shot in the
back of the head, and also cut severely in the throat.  Mr. J.G. Taylor,
Jr., says the Union Record, has been arrested upon circumstantial evidence,
and charged with the crime.  It was a shocking affair.
