DESTRUCTIVE HAIL STORM

NOTE: This is one paragraph of a long article describing a violent storm
that moved through Monroe.
 Old settlers still speak occasionally of the "cold Friday" in February
1823, a day noted not only for it's intense and bitter cold, but also 
because Leslie, the first man ever hanged in this parish, was executed on 
that day and for the offense of killing the thief who was riding his horse 
away.
