 Mr. A.J. Hale, an esteemed and industrious citizen of the parish, for
many years residing on Saline Bayou, near Red River, was waylaid and shot 
on Tuesday evening as he was returning home from a walk to his field.  No 
suspicion, as far as we have heard, attaches to any one as the author of 
the dastardly deed.  Mr. Hale was dead when discovered. — Natchitoches Times
