The family of the accused was in court during the trial, and the deep interest displayed by the wife and little children in the case excited the sympathy of all present. The Ouachita Telegraph Friday, January 22, 1875 Page 3, Column 1 Judge Ray sentenced Reese, convicted of manslaughter for killing Gaines Story, to 17 years in the penitentiary. As Reese seems to have but a frail hold upon life, his days will probably end in penitentiary long before his term expires, and we might say now that he leaves behind a wife and four children upon the cold charities of the world. # # #
