A. Howard, for many years a resident of this parish, in the prime of life, rashly drowned himself at Pargoud’s upper place on the 4th instant. At times, he has been a hard drinker but for the past three months has not been known to take a drop of liquor. He was perfectly at himself. A log tied to the bank had broken loose, and though of no value he desired to recover it. No boat being within reach, he swam for it, against the remonstrance of his friends, and just before reaching it he began to sink and cry for help. Before it could be given to him he had gone down forever. Poor Howard! He mingled the good and evil of humanity so as to be remembered for the one and forgiven for the other. He sleeps in Hasley cemetery. A mother and father and many devoted friends look upon the hillock – green grow the grass upon it. # # #
