       John Ritghons, a freedman employed on Pargoud’s upper plantation,
died Monday morning, from a cut in the abdomen.  John had been in a neighboring
freedman’s melon patch, and opening a melon, ration-fashion, let his knife
slip, and the walls of his bowels were invaded.  John will eat no more melons.
