Simmons, Esq., dated Locharbor, La., March 16th, informs us that “another war in Africa” took place in Gum Swamp, at Mrs. Vaughn’s store on the night of the 15th inst. Two negroes, Allen Jones and Allen Tippit, became embroiled in a difficulty over a game of cards. Tippit left the scene of action, but afterwards returned and renewed the difficulty. A general fight ensued, resulting in the death of Allen Jones, who had his throat cut. Henry Tippit, brother of Allen Tippit, was dangerously shot and Allen Tippit badly banged up. He fled and is supposed to be coming this way. Our sheriff might be on the look out and pick this gentlemen up. Another darky, no party to the fight, was knocked down with a fence rail. Cards and bad whiskey is the bane of the negroes existence. Keep us posted Simmons. # # #
