Broadnax had been missed several days. He had whipped his wife in the field Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday night he disappeared. Dr. Murphy, parish coroner, held an inquest on the body, and it was found that the neck of the deceased had been broken and that there were other marks of violence on the face and body. There were strong suspicions, the jury found, that Broadnax had been murdered by Stephen Galloway, another colored man, and Molly Broadnax, the wife of the deceased. Both are now in jail. Molly Broadnax is a white woman. NOTE: Galloway was found guilty without capital punishment. (December 9, 1882, Page 3, Column 1). # # #
