His piteous cries for help attracted the attention of Watchman Renwick, who hurriedly went to the drowning man’s assistance, but too late to rescue him. The boat in which he came floating down the river was found, and the supposition is that he was asleep and was dragged off the boat by the rope of the ferry flat. # # #
