 Mr. J.W. Johnson, manager of the Ingleside plantation, on Bayou DeSiard,
shot and killed a negro laborer on the place Tuesday.  From all we can learn
he was perfectly justifiable, as the negro was making a murderous assault
upon him with a heavy stick.  Before Mr. Johnson shot the negro he had
sustained serious injuries, getting his left hand broken and receiving a
severe blow on the head.  No one regrets more than Mr. Johnson that he was
compelled to take the negro’s life.
