On Friday evening of last week Capt. Hugh Henry was accidently (sic) shot and killed by Mr. Joe Mays at his home near Cadeville in ward 7. Capt. Henry and Mr. Mayes had been practicing with a Smith & Wesson pistol and Mays was in the act of reloading. Henry standing a little in advance of him, when his pistol was accidentally discharged, the ball striking Henry in the small of the back. Capt. Henry lived until the next morning, retaining consciousness until he died. He entirely exhonorated (sic) Mays and expressed a desire that he be not troubled about the matter. The editor of the Telegraph sincerely regrets the untimely and tragic death of Capt. Henry for we knew him well and prized him as a friend, a scholarly gentleman and an upright, useful citizen. He leaves a charming wife and two interesting little children to whom we send messages of condolence. May he rest in peace and only his virtues be remembered. # # #
