Following the service, interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel of Ruston. Visitation will be at Owens memorial Chapel in Ruston from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Mr. Alexander went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on January 2, 2010, at Northern Louisiana Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A life-long resident of Ruston, he was born on December 10, 1917, the son of F.J. and Ella Alexander. Mr. Alexander was a World War II veteran, who served his country during 1942-1945 with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations and decorations he received included the Bronze Star. In the early 1950's, along with his brother Mack, he established and co-owned the Alexander Floor Covering Company in Ruston. For over 30 years, Louie installed floor coverings and draperies in many, many homes and businesses throughout Ruston and the surrounding area, until his retirement. Mr. Alexander was a member of First Baptist Church of Ruston for 58 years where he faithfully served as a deacon, as a youth Sunday school teacher, and he served on numerous church committees. Although he loved serving his church in all areas, Louie especially enjoyed serving for several years as chairman of building and maintenance. Following many months of prayer and project planning by the church, Louie was so thrilled when he was able to install all new carpeting and floor coverings throughout a brand new main sanctuary building for the church during the 1960's. Our dad always tried to keep his life's priorities in order: his God and Savior came first, next were his beloved family, church and all his wonderful friends. He was always full of love and helped others however he could. Following his retirement and until his health began failing, his favorite pastime was working in his yard and vegetable garden. Preceding him in death, were his parents, his sisters Frances and Ruth, his brother Mack, his daughter Susan, and his wives Botsey and Aline. Surviving him are his two sons Reggie Alexander of Ruston; David and wife Decia Alexander of Prairieville, LA his two daughters Judy and husband Bill Clegg of Ft. Myers, FL; Patti and husband Tommy Damico of Baton Rouge, LA and his grandchildren Caleb and Ashley Alexander; Burt and wife Lucy Andrews, Lexie and husband Jonathan Bowling; Billy and wife Heather Clegg, Robin and husband Jeff Sonn; his great grandchildren Jake Zachery and Dylan Sonn. Other survivors include one brother, James H. Alexander and wife Blanche of Russellville, AR and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be Caleb Alexander, Burt Andrews, Bill Clegg, Billy Clegg, Jeff Sonn, Jonathan Bowling and Tommy Damico. The wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with special thanks to our dad's favorite angels Kim Roberson, Dwayne "Joe" Durham, Kay "B" Lowe, Audrey Johnson and Michelle Tatum. We thank each of you for taking such good care of "Poppa". Special thanks are extended to Dr. Wayne Owens for his friendship, care and concern for our dad and family for so many years. The family requests that memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ruston Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
