ALGER Funeral services for Mr. Charles G. Alger, age 72 of Columbia, LA. will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 27, 2011 from the sanctuary of Fellowship Baptist Church in Columbia with Bro. Brian Rankin officiating and Judge Stephens Winters delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Fellowship Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening at Fellowship Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Mr. Alger was born in Clarks, LA on August 7, 1938 to the union of the late Jeannie Morris Alger and the late Lois Marie Jones Alger and went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, January 23, 2011 in Gallatin, TN. Charles wore many hats through his life including firefighter where he retired as a District Chief after 32 years of service with the Monroe Fire Department. He was a lifelong member, Deacon and Sunday school teacher of Fellowship Baptist Church and a Gideon. He was a former member of the Lion's Club, a graduate of the Police Academy and worked for the Caldwell Parish Sheriff's office for four and a half years. He served on the Caldwell Parish Fire Board and served his country overseas with the Army for two years. He loved sports where he coached baseball and played softball. He enjoyed Andy Griffith and bluegrass music. But his most important hat was that of husband, father and grandfather as he loved his family and grandkids greatly. Survivors include his wife of 52 years; Charlene Haddox Alger of Columbia, three daughters: Kathy Alger Ray and husband, Kerry of West Monroe, Karen Alger Hall and husband, Ronnie of Gallatin, TN and Kim Alger Adams and husband, Monty, Jr. of Columbia, lifelong friend; Rick Richmond, sister; Margaret Evans of West Monroe, five grandchildren: Kolby Ray, Kiley Ray, Ashley Hall, Amber Hall and Blake Adams and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Randy Barnett, Donnie Mann, Charles McGuire, Darryl Johnson, Jerry Bailey, Marty Varner, Carl Ferrington and Jim Gaylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Richmond, Manuel Escalon, Bobby McGuire, and the City of Monroe Fire Department.
