ALLEN Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road Monroe, LA Funeral services for Mrs. Lavinia B. Allen of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt of North Monroe Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM Wednesday in Sallis, MS. Mrs. Allen was born November 30, 1924, in Blackstone, VA, and went to be with her heavenly Father and Savior on Monday, July 7, 2008. She was a long-time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS, and worked for 25 years as manager of Town and Country Cleaners on Canton Mart Road in Jackson. Mrs. Allen was devoted to her family, meeting the challenges of life with grace and gleaning joy from the simple things of life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Grover N. Allen. Survivors include her daughter, Dianne A. Graham and husband Michael F. Graham of Monroe, LA; her son, Robert N. Allen of Greenwood, MS; five grandchildren, Michael A. Graham and wife Jennifer, Lauren G. Bailey and husband Mike, all of Monroe, LA, Melanie Bonds and husband Mark of Birmingham, AL, Beverly Allen of Greenwood, MS, and Grover Allen of Vicksburg, MS; great- grandchildren, Beau and Katie Bailey, Caroline and Lauren Graham, Tara Bonds, and Sierra Allen; one sister, Jane Daniel and husband Tommy of Blackstone, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Special gratitude is given to Mrs. Allen's long-time caregivers: Melba Moore, Gwen Hollins, Dianne Handy, Virginia Johnson of Monroe, LA, and Vanessa Atkinson of Jackson, MS. These ladies were not only Christian caregivers but also friends and companions who lovingly watched over her and gave her comfort and joy in her last nine years.
