BAILEY FUNERAL HOME Junction City, AR - Joe Ben Allen Jr. 86 of Junction City, LA; died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas following a brief illness. Born on July 4, 1922 in Meigs, Georgia; he was the son Joseph B and Annie Grant Allen Sr. Mr. Allen was active in the Junction City community serving as Mayor of Junction City, Louisiana for 32 years, a term on the Claiborne Parish School Board, and as a Director of Union State Bank for several years. Joe Ben was an avid fan and supporter of Junction City 'Dragon' athletics. He was the former co owner of Allen Brothers Construction and Union Hardware Store. Joe Ben was of the Baptist faith. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corp and was a member of the American Legion. Joe Ben was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ralph Allen, sisters Lillian Freyou and Ben Love Gorman, and his wife Barbara Wheelus Allen. Survivors are a daughter Mary Jo Burnside and husband Randall of Springdale, AR, sons Kenny Allen of Junction City, and Ben Allen and wife Brenda of West Monroe, LA, seven grandchildren Sarah Sawyer, Joey Allen, Leslie Swilley, Jacob Allen, Bert Jones, Blake Jones, and Jon Burnside, three great grandchildren Cateon Burnside, Brooks Burnside, and John Paul Jones. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 20, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Junction City with Rev. Buddy Boatwright, and Rev. Claude Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Glover, W.T. Brooks, B.F. Green, Jimmy Taylor, Jack Walker, and Mickey Freyou; and pallbearers are Jacob Allen, Joey Allen, Bert Jones, Blake Jones, Jon Burnside, and George Glover. The family will receive friends at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City on Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Junction City School District, P.O.
