APLIN Services for Lillian S. Aplin will be held Friday, February 12, 2016, at 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg with Dr. Ralph Webber officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home, Jonesville. Lillian Sutton Aplin, 88 died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at her home following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Lillian was a lifetime resident of Harrisonburg. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her two sons, James J. Aplin of Harrisonburg and John F. Aplin and his wife Sherri of West Monroe, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cater F. Aplin, Jr., her daughter, Carol Aplin Finnegan, sister, Peggy Lazarus, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Sutton. Other survivors include, 6 grandchildren, J. Jason Aplin, Staci Cater, Josie Aplin all of Harrisonburg; Tara Becnel of Lafayette, LA, Damon Becnel and Sara Becnel of Destin, Florida and 8 great grandchildren. After her husband, Cater, returned from World War II the couple continued their education at Louisiana State University where she received her degree in education. She then returned to her home in Harrisonburg, LA where she was a lifelong educator who taught Home Economics at Harrisonburg High School for over 30 years. Mrs. Lillian "Gran" to those who knew and loved her, was our true "Southern Belle" and an inspiration and mentor not only to her family, but to the many lives that she touched throughout her life. Pallbearers will be Jason Aplin, Lee Cater, Tommy Lazarus, Paul Lazarus, Paul Lemke, and Cleve Womack. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Morris, Jackie Owens, Ralph Stutson and Keith Guice. A special thanks to Hellen Tolliver, Nanna, for the many years she spent commited to Gran and her family.
