Born on August 15, 1963, in Galveston, Texas, Anthony was a beacon of warmth and encouragement to all who knew him. Anthony dedicated his professional life to social work, where he passionately advocated for and counseled adults with mental disorders. A licensed social worker, he was known for his commitment to his clients and his ability to foster lasting relationships. His work was not only a career but a calling, which he often described as challenging yet immensely rewarding. He also served as a mentor to aspiring social workers, guiding them with his experience and wisdom. Educated at Central Middle School and Ball High School in Galveston, Texas, Anthony went on to further his education at Stephan F Austin University, Tulane University, and acquiring his Masters in Social Work from Southern University New Orleans. His academic journey was a testament to his dedication to learning and growth. Beyond his professional and academic life, Anthony was a lover of life's simpler pleasures. He enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends, exploring new restaurants, visiting casinos, and relaxing while watching football and reality shows like "The Housewives." Anthony was a cherished member of his family and is survived by his brother, Dr. Michael Archie; nephews, Joshua and Matthew Archie; aunts, Corean Roche (Eddie), Odelia Duncan, and Merdis Gordon; uncle, George Compton; cousins, Walter Jones and Reginald Phillips; sister-in-laws, Catherine Fomby and Cynthia Davis (Lonnie); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends including Frank Borders and Linda Santos. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irma Lee Chambers; father, Anderson Shorten, Jr.; sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Archie; close friend, Joseph Millet; and brother-in-law, Lonnie "Sonny" Fomby. A memorial service to celebrate Anthony's life will be held on July 13, 2024, at E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary, located at 3828 Avenue O, Galveston, Texas. In accordance with his wishes, Anthony will be cremated, foregoing a burial service. E.R. Johnson Family Mortuary is assisting the family during this time. Anthony's life was marked by his joyous spirit, resilience in the face of challenges, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
